At Work In Process, pay what you can (PWYC) pricing—based on the Green Bottle Method developed by Worts + Cunning—helps us operate as a community-supported studio. It keeps doors open, machines running, and access possible — without pretending that one price works for everyone.

Why We Use Pay What You Can (PWYC)

This isn’t about charity, discounts, or guessing what you “should” pay.

It’s about equity.

Equity means understanding that fairness isn’t everyone paying the same amount — it’s everyone contributing in a way that makes sense for their real life. Sometimes that means paying more. Sometimes it means paying less. Both are necessary for this model to work.

PWYC allows us to:

• Lower barriers to learning and making

• Keep tools and studio access available

• Acknowledge real differences in income and responsibility

• Build something sustainable together

This model runs on trust. We trust you to choose what fits right now.

How to Choose a Tier

There’s no quiz. No proof. No permanent category.

Your choice can change from one purchase to the next — and that’s expected. Below are examples meant to help you decide, not boxes to put yourself in.

Sustain

This tier might feel right if:

• • Your income is stable and reliable

  • Your basic needs* are comfortably met

  • You have expendable income** able to save, invest, or spend on extras

  • You want to help hold the studio up for others

Choosing this tier helps make flexible pricing possible for all. It supports maintenance, labor, and long-term access to shared tools and space.

Support

This tier might fit if:

• • Your income covers necessities but doesn’t leave much margin

  • Paying full price would require trade-offs or careful budgeting

  • You’re balancing things like childcare, medical expenses, or debt

  • You want to contribute while honoring your limits

This tier reflects shared responsibility — showing up in a way that’s sustainable for you.

Access

This tier exists because access matters.

You might choose it if:

• • Money is tight or unpredictable

  • You’re in a season of transition or instability

  • You’re supporting others on limited resources

  • Paying more would keep you from participating at all

Choosing this tier is valid. It’s here on purpose. You belong in this space regardless of what you’re able to pay.

  *Basic Needs include food, housing, health care, and transportation.
**Expendable Income might mean you are able to buy coffee or tea at a shop, go to the movies or a concert, buy new clothes, books, and similar items each month, etc.
